Hamas Says Its Forces Fired Heavy-Calibre Mortal Shells At Israeli Soldiers In Gaza

Hamas has said that its forces have opened fire on Israeli soldiers with heavy-calibre mortar shells after they entered Gaza.

The images purport to show Hamas militants repeatedly opening fire with mortar shells on unseen Israeli forces.

The images were obtained from Hamas on 7th November, along with a statement saying: “The Al-Qassam Brigades target the enemy’s concentrations that have penetrated into the Gaza Strip with heavy calibre mortar shells.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

The United Nations Security Council has failed to agree on a resolution on the conflict.

Israel’s military has claimed that its Air Force has hit 450 Hamas targets.

Israel has also claimed to have killed Jamal Mussa, who it says “was responsible for the special security operations in the Hamas terrorist organisation.”

A rare joint statement issued by a number of international charities as well as the United Nations main humanitarian agencies has called for an “immediate humanitarian ceasefire” in Gaza.

The statement has called the situation “horrific” and “unacceptable”.

The main signatories include the heads of OCHA, UNICEF, the World Food Programme, the WHO, Save the Children and CARE International.

The statement said: “For almost a month, the world has been watching the unfolding situation in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory in shock and horror at the spiralling numbers of lives lost and torn apart.”

It also said: “An entire population is besieged and under attack, denied access to the essentials for survival, bombed in their homes, shelters, hospitals and places of worship. This is unacceptable.”

Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, has arrived in Turkey to discuss the situation in Gaza.

The police used water cannons and teargas to disperse hundreds of protesters who had marched on a US airbase in south-eastern Turkey hours before Blinken arrived.

The US military has announced that it has sent a nuclear-powered submarine to the region.

King Abdullah II of Jordan has said that his country has airdropped a medical aid package or to a hospital in Gaza.

The Jordanian military said that medical supplies were airdropped using parachutes from a Jordanian Air Force aircraft.

The United Kingdom’s Foreign Office said on Monday that it was withdrawing some staff from its Embassy in Lebanon.

At least 10,000 people have been killed in nearly a month of Israeli strikes, the Hamas-run Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said on Monday.

Over 1,400 Israelis have died, primarily civilians who were killed during Hamas’ attack on 7th October, although this figure includes 345 Israeli soldiers reportedly killed since the attack, according to the Israeli army.

In just a month, the war has become the deadliest conflict between Israeli and Palestinian forces since Israel was established in 1948.
