IDF Says It Has Destroyed Hamas Tunnel Shaft Near Beach In Southern Gaza

Israel has said that it has destroyed a tunnel shaft used by Hamas near a beach in southern Gaza City.

The footage shows Israeli naval forces destroying a number of buildings in the Gaza Strip.

The images were obtained from the Israel Defense Forces on Tuesday, 19th December, along with a statement saying: “Fighters of the 179th Brigade Combat Team (‘RAM’) destroyed a tunnel shaft near a beach in southern Gaza City.

“After the explosion of the shaft, the forces identified a large number of terrorists who fled into a building on the coastline. An Air Force fighter plane destroyed the building.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

The Israel-Hamas war is now entering its 73rd day, after the deadliest attack on Israel by Hamas on 7th October left 1,200 Israelis dead.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, addressing the House of Commons liaison committee, expressed concern over civilian casualties in the Israel-Hamas conflict, blaming Hamas for embedding itself among civilians.

EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, highlighted Europe’s loss of moral ground on Gaza, and UN officials condemned attacks on Gaza hospitals.

The UN Security Council is set to vote on a ceasefire, and Italy plans to send a frigate to protect the Red Sea route amid Houthi attacks. BP halted Red Sea shipments, and the US announced a multinational operation.

At least 13 Palestinians were killed and 75 others wounded in an Israeli strike on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.

The camp, home to about 116,000 registered refugees, is the largest in Gaza. And concerns arise over the impact on civilians dependent on aid from the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees.

Italy’s Defence Minister, Guido Crosetto, declared that Italy would work with the international community to counter the destabilizing activities of the Houthis.

This decision followed the group’s intensified missile and drone attacks in the Red Sea, triggered by Israel’s assault on the Gaza Strip, with the Houthis suggesting a naval operation would be carried out approximately every 12 hours.

Simultaneously, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza reached a critical point, with UN officials expressing anger and disbelief at the dire situation in hospitals.

Reports indicated that injured individuals lacked basic supplies. Children recovering from amputations were tragically killed in ongoing conflicts.

Hospitals, including the largest operational one, Nasser hospital, faced shelling, further exacerbating the crisis.

IDF Says It Has Killed Dozens Of Hamas Militants In Gaza Strip

Former UK Prime Minister David Cameron received a letter from foreign policy experts urging an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Criticizing the government’s failure to do so as “strategically ill-advised and morally indefensible.”

The situation on the ground in Gaza remained grim. As Israeli strikes persisted, causing at least 28 Palestinian casualties in southern Gaza.

Troops raided one of the last functioning hospitals in the north as the offensive against Hamas continued.

The total toll from the offensive stood at nearly 20,000 Palestinians killed. And approximately 1.9 million displaced, with widespread destruction in northern Gaza.

Against this backdrop, a UN Security Council vote loomed. Adding pressure on international leaders to address the escalating crisis and seek a sustainable resolution.
