Moment American M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank Opens Fire During Training In Texas

This footage shows an M1A2 Abrams main battle tank firing its 120mm main gun during live-fire gunnery certification training in Texas.

The images were filmed at Fort Bliss, in the US state of Texas, on 13th March before being released by the US Department of Defense (DoD) on 19th March.

 

The images show a tank from the 2nd Battalion, 13th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division manoeuvring across the Dona Ana Range Complex, according to the US DoD.

In the video, crew members operate the main cannon as part of a live-fire exercise designed to certify their combat readiness, opening fire on mock enemy targets.

The US DoD said in a statement that the footage shows “an M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank assigned to 2nd Battalion, 13th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division” firing its “120mm main gun during a tank gunnery certification at the Dona Ana Range Complex at Fort Bliss, Texas, March 13, 2026.”

The statement also said: “The live-fire exercise requires tank crews to demonstrate proficiency and qualify with all organic weapons systems, including crew-served machine guns and the main cannon.”
