This footage reportedly shows the US military targeting and destroying Iranian vessels threatening international shipping in and near the Strait of Hormuz.
The footage was released by US Central Command (CENTCOM) on 19th March along with a short statement saying: “US forces are destroying Iranian naval targets that threaten international shipping in and near the Strait of Hormuz.”
The video shows military strikes targeting vessels at sea, with explosions visible as the targets are hit.
The operation comes amid heightened tensions over the security of one of the world’s most important shipping lanes.
A joint statement issued on 19th March by the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Japan and Canada highlighted concerns over threats to maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and signalled their readiness to help secure the vital waterway, which is a key route for global energy supplies.
