Russia Says T-90A Tank Provided Fire Support To Assault Unit Against Ukrainian Forces

These images purport to show a Russian T-90A tank providing fire support for a Russian assault unit as they battle Ukrainian forces.

The footage shows the Russian tank advancing on the battlefield and repeatedly opening fire, with its tank commander, with the call sign ‘Skuter’, then talking to the camera and detailing his experience on the battlefield, with subtitles in English added by the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The images were obtained from the Russian MoD on Wednesday, 22nd May, along with a statement claiming (in English): “T-90A tank crew of Zapad Group of Forces provides fire support to Russian assault unit

“The tank crew was launching direct fire at the enemy. At the same time, the Russian tankmen were shelled with tube artillery and hand anti-tank grenade launchers, and FPV-drones. The camera on the tank’s turret recorded the strike of an FPV drone.

“‘We were immediately hit with artillery strikes, and FPV drone strikes began right away. This vehicle was hit by three FPV drones, but it suffered no damage. We continued our movement and fired 15 shots at the enemy. While I was moving, I saw a burst of RPG fire at us. Fortunately, the enemy missed the shot. I gave my gunner the command, and I directed him to defeat the one who shot at us,’ the tank commander called Skuter said about the battle.

“Due to effective fire support by the T-90A tank crew, the assault detachment successfully completed the task to capture an AFU stronghold.” (sic)

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.
