IDF Says It Destroyed Hamas Tunnel Under Al-Shifa Hospital Just Before Ceasefire

The Israel Defense Forces have said that they destroyed a Hamas tunnel under the Al-Shifa Hospital shortly before the ceasefire came into effect.

The footage appears to show the tunnel being destroyed in a large explosion, with the images also showing a number of buildings being hit by Israeli ordnance.

The images were obtained from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Friday, 24th November, along with a statement saying: “The IDF has completed its operational assessment of the cease-fire lines; This morning the IDF forces destroyed the terrorist tunnel that was exposed in the Al-Shifa Hospital.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

The Israel-Hamas war is now entering its 49th day, after the deadliest attack on Israel by Hamas on 7th October left 1,200 Israelis dead.

Israel has since retaliated with airstrikes on Gaza and a ground invasion.

Some Palestinian health officials say they have lost the ability to count the dead due to the collapse of Gaza’s health infrastructure and the difficulty of recovering bodies from areas where Israeli forces are active.

But the Palestinian government’s media office has put the estimated number of dead at over 14,800.

A four-day ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has begun.

Aid trucks are reported to have entered Gaza via the Rafah crossing from Egypt and some Israeli hostages will reportedly be released later today.

But Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee has said that “the war is not over yet”, warning people not to return to northern Gaza.

He said: “The humanitarian pause is temporary. The northern Gaza Strip is a dangerous war zone and it is forbidden to move north. For your safety, you must remain in the humanitarian zone in the south.

“It is only possible to move from the north of the Strip to the south via Salah al-Din Road. The movement of residents from the south of the Strip to the north is not allowed and dangerous.”

Hostilities reportedly continued until the last moment. Israeli forces reportedly attacked the Indonesian hospital in northern Gaza overnight and hit a residential building in the Nuseirat refugee camp, in central Gaza.

The UK will provide a further GBP 30 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza, David Cameron, the Foreign Secretary, has said.

He is reportedly travelling to the occupied Palestinian territories on the second day of his visit to the region.
