IDF Says It Is Battling Hamas At Al-Shifa Hospital

The Israel defence forces have said that they are battling Hamas at the Al-Shifa hospital.

The images show Israeli soldiers in action on the ground, opening fire on targets amid explosions.

The images were obtained from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Wednesday, 15th November, along with a statement saying: “IDF forces are operating at this time in a targeted manner at the Al-Shifa Hospital.

“The activity takes place in a specified complex for which there is intelligence information indicating terrorist activity by the terrorist organisation Hamas and in accordance with an operational need.

“Before entering the hospital, our forces encountered explosives and terrorist squads and a fight ensued from which terrorists were eliminated.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

The Israel-Hamas war is now entering its 40th day, after the deadliest attack on Israel by Hamas on 7th October left 1,400 Israelis dead.

Israel has since retaliated with airstrikes on Gaza and a ground invasion, with the Hamas-run Health Ministry in the enclave saying that at least 11,500 people had been killed and 29,000 injured.

Israeli forces have said that they have entered the Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza and said that they have provided incubators and baby food.

They have also urged members of Hamas they claim are in the hospital to surrender.

The Israeli military described the operation as a “precise and targeted operation against Hamas in a specified area.”

The Palestinian Health Ministry said: “We hold Israel’s raiding forces fully responsible for the lives of medical staff, patients and displaced people in Gaza’a Al Shifa hospital.”

US President Joe Biden has said that the Al-Shifa hospital “must be protected” and called for “less intrusive action” by Israeli forces.

He said: “It is my hope and expectation that there will be less intrusive action.”

But in a rare move, the Pentagon has said that Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad were using the Al-Shifa hospital.

Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said: “Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad use some hospitals in the Gaza Strip, including the Al Shifa Hospital, as a way to conceal and support their military operations and hold hostages.

“They have tunnels underneath these hospitals. Hamas and PIJ members operate a command and control node from Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

“They have weapons stored there, and are prepared to respond to an Israeli military operation against the facility.”

Southeast Asian Defence Ministers, who are meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia, this week for ASEAN talks, have called for the fighting in Gaza to cease and for humanitarian aid corridors to be set up.

Hamas militants have said that they are discussing with Qatari mediators the release of up to 70 women and children hostages in Gaza in exchange for a five-day Israeli ceasefire.

Israel has so far rejected any ceasefire until the release of all 240 hostages.
