Intense Combat As Ukrainian Forces Battle To Liberate Town Of Urozhayne In Donetsk

These images show Ukrainian forces battling to liberate the town of Urozhayne in Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.

The images show Russian positions being targeted by Ukrainian ordnance, with Ukrainian forces then seen manoeuvring into position with war machines and deploying infantry.

A number of Russian military vehicles can then be seen being hit, with intense combat showing Ukrainian military vehicles opening fire on Russian positions while deploying infantry.

The images were obtained from the 503rd Separate Battalion of the Marine Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Monday, 18th September, along with a statement saying: “Collaboration of units from the 1st and 503rd Separate Battalions of the 38th Marine Brigade and the 35th Separate Marine Brigade.

“This is a symbol of our unwavering dedication and determination. We, the soldiers of the 503rd Separate Marine Battalion, will continue to remain strong and faithful to our promises to Ukraine.

“The liberation of the country’s territories is a challenging task that requires great effort.

“Soldiers and servicemen face numerous challenges and risks on this path. However, despite all the difficulties, servicemen are always ready to risk their lives to protect their country and the freedom of their fellow citizens.

“Dedication, belief in a just cause, and discipline play a crucial role in achieving success.”

The images were also relayed by the Office of Strategic Communications (StratCom) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine along with a statement saying: “Footage of the joint combat operations of units from the 1st and 503rd Separate Battalions of the 38th Marine Brigade during the liberation of Urozhayne from occupiers.”

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February 2022 in what the Kremlin is still calling a “special military operation”. Today marks the 573rd day of the full-scale war.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 19th September 2023, Russia had lost about 273,460 personnel, 4,628 tanks, 8,851 armoured combat vehicles, 6,062 artillery units, 778 multiple launch rocket systems, 526 air defence systems, 315 warplanes, 316 helicopters, 4,784 drones, 1,479 cruise missiles, 20 warships, 1 submarine, 8,601 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 903 units of special equipment.

Russia has claimed that its casualties have been much lower but provides infrequent updates on its latest figures.

General Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has praised Ukrainian forces for recapturing two villages on the eastern front, Andriivka and Klishchiivka, saying that it is an important breakthrough.

He also said it had allowed Ukrainian troops to break through Russian lines near Bakhmut.

The Ukrainian government has dismissed six Deputy Defence Ministers following the appointment of a new Defence Minister earlier this month.

Ukraine’s government gave no reason for the dismissals, which include Hanna Maliar.

Ukrainian media has said that it is customary for such dismissals to take place when a new Defence Minister is appointed and some of them may be reappointed.

Ukraine has filed lawsuits with the World Trade Organization against Poland, Slovakia and Hungary after they went against a European Commission decision last week to end an import ban on Ukrainian grain.

The Mayor of Kharkiv, Ihor Terekhov, has said that Russia launched a missile attack on the city late on Monday and hit an industrial district.

It is currently unclear if there are any casualties in what the damage was.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in New York ahead of a General Assembly meeting of the United Nations and meetings in Washington DC, including with US President Joe Biden.

Zelensky said that he had also visited Ukrainian soldiers who are being treated for war injuries in the United States.

The US Department of Justice has said that a Russian man living in Hong Kong has been taken into US custody on charges of smuggling a large number of military-grade, American-made microelectronics into Russia.

Maxim Marchenko and two other suspects are accused of using shell companies to supply Russia with the American technology.

Russia has claimed that a Ukrainian case accusing Moscow of abusing the genocide convention to justify its invasion of the country is an “abuse of process”.

Lawyers for Russia are trying to have judges at the International Court of Justice in The Hague throw the case out.

The United Nations special rapporteur on the human rights situation in Russia, Mariana Katzarova, has said that citizens’ rights have “significantly deteriorated” since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine last year.

Katzarova added that “the situation had already been on a steady decline over the past two decades.”

Bulgaria’s Ministry of Defence has said that wreckage of a drone that was found on its territory has been destroyed in a controlled manner and was most likely “connected” to the war in Ukraine, although it is currently unclear if the drone belonged to Ukraine or Russia.
