The Israel-Hamas war is now entering its 48th day, after the deadliest attack on Israel by Hamas on 7th October left 1,200 Israelis dead.

Israel has since retaliated with airstrikes on Gaza and a ground invasion.

Some Palestinian health officials say they have lost the ability to count the dead due to the collapse of Gaza’s health infrastructure and the difficulty of recovering bodies from areas where Israeli forces are active.

But the Palestinian government’s media office has put the estimated number of dead at over 14,532.

Israeli and US officials have said that there will be no ceasefire or hostage release before Friday, after a deal was agreed between Israel and Hamas yesterday.

Israel National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi said in a statement: “The start of the release will take place according to the original agreement between the sides, and not before Friday.”

Israeli officials have also been cited as saying that fighting would not stop today, on Thursday, as had been anticipated.
