Russia Claims Its Missile Destroyed A Ukrainian Railway Loading Point In Mykolaiv

These images purportedly show a Russian missile destroying a railway where Ukrainian forces were meant to load a train with armoured vehicles set to reinforce their troops on the front line.

In the footage, a military convoy can be seen parked parallel to railway tracks in the Mykolaiv region, in southern Ukraine.

Seconds later, a huge explosion can be seen after a missile hits the tracks.

The images were obtained by Newsflash from the Russian Ministry of Defence on Saturday, 30th September, along with a statement saying: “Destruction of the loading point of the 38th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Mykolaiv region.

“With the use of reconnaissance means, the location for loading a train with armoured vehicles intended to reinforce Ukrainian troops on the line of contact was identified.

“The coordinates of the target were promptly transmitted to a ground-based missile system, which carried out a precision strike.

“The loading point was destroyed.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February 2022 in what the Kremlin still calls a “special military operation”. Today marks the 586th day of the full-scale war.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 19th September 2023, Russia had lost about 279,080 personnel, 4,717 tanks, 9,000 armoured combat vehicles, 6,525 artillery units, 801 multiple launch rocket systems, 540 air defence systems, 316 warplanes, 316 helicopters, 5,061 drones, 1,529 cruise missiles, 20 warships, 1 submarine, 8,601 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 938 units of special equipment.

The UK’s Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, clarified that there are no immediate intentions to send military trainers to Ukraine, retracting earlier statements made by Defence Minister Grant Shapps, who had indicated the possibility of troops conducting training in the region.

On Defenders Day, Ukraine commemorated veterans and paid tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the invasion by Russia. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in a concise address on Telegram, stated: “Challenging moments have forged our strength. And it is the strong who propel victory closer. Gradually. Today, tomorrow, each day, each moment.”

On Sunday, two alleged Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted Russian territory. Social media footage depicted one drone hitting a helicopter base in Sochi and another striking an aircraft factory in Smolensk. In potential connection to these incidents, Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan urged for “a nuclear ultimatum” after a drone fell near her family residence in Adler, approximately 38km from Sochi.

The UK Ministry of Defence has stated that Russian documents revealing a significant increase in military spending for the year 2024, indicate Moscow’s preparation for “multiple additional years of conflict in Ukraine.”

According to the ministry’s latest intelligence update, leaked papers from Russia’s finance ministry suggest a projected rise in defence spending to approximately 30 per cent of the total public expenditure in 2024.
