Russia Says Its Forces Hit And Disabled Special Ukrainian Military Equipment Near Bakhmut

Russia has said that it has destroyed Ukrainian camouflaged self-propelled guns and a tank near Bakhmut.

The footage reportedly shows Russian forces destroying two Ukrainian self-propelled guns and a tank with Lancet kamikaze drones near Andriivka, in the Bakhmut area of eastern Ukraine.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD), on 18th December, along with a statement claiming: “Russian paratroopers with Lancets hit two camouflaged self-propelled guns and a Ukrainian Armed Forces tank at a firing position in the Andreevka area.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February 2022 in what the Kremlin is still calling a “special military operation.” Today marks the 663rd day of the full-scale war.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 18th December 2023. Russia had lost about 347,160 personnel, 5,783 tanks, 10,752 armoured combat vehicles, 8,175 artillery units, 926 multiple launch rocket systems, 610 air defence systems, 324 warplanes, 324 helicopters 6,290 drones, 1,610 cruise missiles, 22 warships, 1 submarine, 10,822 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 1,198 units of special equipment.

Russia and Ukraine exchanged drone attacks for the second consecutive day.

The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that they had shot down 35 Ukrainian drones in south-western Russia, targeting key areas, including a Russian airbase linked to operations in Ukraine.

Russian President Vladimir Putin pledges to make Russia “sovereign, self-sufficient” in a campaign speech, accusing the West of futile attempts to “sow internal troubles” in the country.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the official launch of an assessment with the European Commission. Evaluating Ukrainian legislation with the goal of aligning with EU standards.

The move comes ahead of Ukraine’s EU accession talks expected in the spring. Marking a significant step toward closer integration with the European Union.

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, expressed admiration for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Attributing it to his significant role in the EU’s decision to initiate membership talks with Kyiv.

Scholz’s contribution is recognised as sincere and well-deserved, resonating positively among Ukrainians.

Ukraine’s security services discovered a spy bug in an office related to the country’s army command.

Although not directly in the office of the army chief, Valery Zaluzhvy. The bug was located in a space that could be utilised by the army official. Raising concerns about potential espionage and security breaches.
