Russia Says Its Forces Hit Ukrainian Military Positions With Metis-M1 ATMS Near Vuhledar

Russia has claimed that its anti-tank units took out Ukrainian soldiers and armoured vehicles near Vuhledar in eastern Ukraine.

The footage purports to show Russian soldiers taking up a position with a Metis-M1 portable anti-tank missile system and shooting it towards Ukrainian military positions.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence on Thursday, 21st December, along with a statement saying: “Crews of the Metis-M1 portable anti-tank missile system of the anti-tank units of the Vostok group of troops effectively hit manpower and armoured vehicles of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the vicinity of Vuhledar.

“The presence of such complexes makes it possible to create a multicomponent anti-tank defence system at the forefront, characterized by increased flexibility of use.

“The anti-tank missile has a reinforced tandem warhead, which gives penetration of at least 900-950 mm. In terms of firepower, such ammunition is comparable to a large-calibre artillery shell.”

The statement also quoted a Metis-M1 ATGM operator with the call sign ‘Lex’ as saying: “We are working on tanks, armoured vehicles, and concentrations of enemy manpower.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.
