Russia Says Its Paratroopers Forced Ukrainian Soldiers In Donetsk To Surrender

Russia has said that its paratroopers forced Ukrainian soldiers in Donetsk to surrender.

The footage shows Russian soldiers in a shallow trench as they engage in close combat with unseen Ukrainian soldiers, firing silenced assault rifles equipped with scopes.

The images then cut to footage apparently shot at dusk and showing a Russian soldier firing a rocket at the Ukrainian positions before a gunfight ensues between the two sides.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Tuesday, 21st May, along with a statement claiming (in English): “Paratroopers from Ussuriysk push enemy units out of stronghold in Donetsk direction.”

The Russian MoD added: “After locating the AFU [Armed Forces of Ukraine] fortifications near Andreyevka and Kurdyumovka, the paratroopers decided to hold positions and begin an assault at night.

“Following further reconnaissance, the servicemen located the enemy’s defences and main firepower, and eliminated the militants by small arms and sniper rifles’ fire.

“At nightfall, the paratroopers began the assault. After suppressing the enemy’s firepower by precise grenade launchers fire, the paratroopers entered the positions and performed a sweep-up.

“Demoralised Ukrainian troops fled leaving the wounded and killed behind. Some militants dropped their weapons and surrendered.” (sic)
