Russia Says Its Su-25 Fighter Jets Launched Missiles At Ukrainian Fortified Positions And Armoured Vehicles

These images purport to show Russian Su-25 fighter jets launching missiles at Ukrainian fortified positions and armoured vehicles on the frontlines.

The video begins by showing an Su-25 fighter jet preparing for takeoff before it can be seen taxiing onto a runway and taking to the skies along with another aircraft.

The aircraft can then be seen flying low over countryside before firing its deadly ordnance at unseen targets.

The aircraft be seen taking a base of action before one of them is apparently seen landing back at base.

The images were obtained from the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Monday, 24th July, along with a statement claiming: “Su-25s of the Eastern Military District continue to perform combat missions in the zone of the special military operation.”

The Russian MoD added: “Attack aviation crews carried out rocket air strikes on military facilities and equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

“Missile launches were carried out in pairs from low altitudes.

“After the use of aviation weapons, the crews performed a manoeuvre, releasing heat traps, and returned to the departure airfield.

“As a result of combat use, camouflaged fortified field positions and armoured vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed.

“After the sorties, the engineering and technical staff completed the tasks of servicing aircraft and preparing aviation equipment for a second combat sortie.”

We have not been able to independently verify the claims or the footage.

Russia invaded Ukraine on 24th February 2022 in what the Kremlin is still calling a “special military operation”. Today marks the 516th day of the full-scale war.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 24th July 2023, Russia had lost about 242,620 personnel, 4,162 tanks, 8,118 armoured combat vehicles, 4,675 artillery units, 697 multiple launch rocket systems, 452 air defence systems, 315 warplanes, 310 helicopters, 3,963 drones, 1,307 cruise missiles, 18 warships, 7,182 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 698 units of special equipment.

Russia has claimed that its casualties have been much lower but provides infrequent updates on its latest figures.

Ukrainian officials have said that Russia attacked the Ukrainian Black Sea port city of Odesa, in southern Ukraine, again on Sunday, killing one person and wounding 22 others, and damaging the port’s infrastructure.

Russia has repeatedly attacked the city since pulling out of the Black Sea grain deal last week.

Odesa’s regional governor Oleh Kiper said that four children had been injured in the attack on Odesa, which has reportedly seriously damaged the city’s historic Transfiguration Cathedral.

Andrii Palchuk, the cathedral’s Archdeacon, said that the church had been hit by a Russian missile.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has said Ukraine’s counteroffensive “has failed”.

He made the comment while hosting his close ally, the authoritarian President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, in Saint Petersburg.

Russian media quoted Lukashenko as saying on Sunday: “There is no counteroffensive.”

Putin reportedly replied: “It exists, but it has failed.”

Lukashenko said that it was “controlling” the situation with forces from the Wagner mercenary organisation present on its territory, saying that Belarus was restricting them to the centre of the country.

Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, has said that his country and Warsaw will “always stand united” following accusations from Putin and Lukashenko that Poland has territorial ambitions.

Kuleba said: “Putin’s attempts to drive a wedge between Kyiv and Warsaw are as futile as his failing invasion of Ukraine.”

He added: “Unlike Russia, Poland and Ukraine have learned from history and will always stand united against Russian imperialism and disrespect for international law.”

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a meeting of a new NATO-Ukraine Council had been scheduled for Wednesday and was set to discuss security in the Black Sea and Ukrainian grain exports.
