Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that the popular “Russian Red” shade of lipstick should be banned.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Valentine’s Day, 14th February (in English): “‘Russian Red’ is the name of a popular shade, especially of the MACcosmetics brand.
“Yet, it’s not about beauty or love at all.
“It’s the color of the blood of Ukrainians killed by Russia every day.
“It’s a true color of war that nobody should ever experience.”
They signed off with the hashtag #StopRussianRed and illustrated the post with a collage by Svitlana Paveletska, one of the founders of the Knygolav book publishing house.
MAC Cosmetics is a Canadian-American cosmetics manufacturer with a market value of approximately USD 3.65 billion.

It was founded in Toronto, is headquartered in New York and is part of Estee Lauder Companies.
Paveletska had previously written a post about what unexpectedly led to her search for the perfect lipstick.
She said: “My story is about how, in search of the perfect red lipstick, all roads led to the well-known MAC brand with the perfect red.”
Svitlana Paveletska explained that “Russian red” is the name that the iconic shade of lipstick from the MAC Cosmetics brand still has.
The product has been discontinued for the Ukrainian market, but all over the world the bright red lipstick from MAC is still sold under the name “Russian red”.
Added: “During the two years of the war, we realised more than ever what Russian red looks like — and this name acquired a completely different meaning.
“Because Russian red is not a shade of lipstick that a woman should apply on her lips. These are thousands of Ukrainian lives. These are hundreds of lost children.
“These are thousands of people who are now homeless. These are civilian prisoners. These are prisoners of war. Maybe we need to explain to the company what kind of Russian red it is.”
The call for the popular shade of lipstick to be banned has been picked up in Ukrainian media. With numerous netizens also supporting the move, according to Ukrainian media.
