These images show Ukrainian air defence destroying a Russian Orlan-10 Reconnaissance UAV using a Strela-10 Air Defence System.
The footage shows the Ukrainian air defence forces firing ordnance into the sky and taking down the Russian Orlan-10 UAV, which can be seen exploding in the air as it is hit.
The images were obtained from the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Tuesday, 2nd April, along with a statement saying: “Eastern direction. A Russian Orlan-10 reconnaissance UAV was destroyed.
“Excellent work by the crew of the Strela-10 air defence system of one of the Army units.”
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that between 24th February 2022 and 2nd April 2024, Russia had lost approximately 443,660 personnel, 6,998 tanks, 13,350 armoured combat vehicles, 11,120 artillery units, 1,023 multiple launch rocket systems, 744 air defence systems, 347 warplanes, 325 helicopters, 8,779 drones, 2,058 cruise missiles, 26 warships, 1 submarine, 14,783 motor vehicles and fuel tankers, and 1,832 units of special equipment.
Both Russia and Ukraine claimed to have shot down each other’s drones over the Black Sea.
The Russian Ministry of Defence said that its air defence units intercepted six Ukrainian drones aiming to conduct a “terrorist attack.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Air Force spokesperson confirmed the downing of a sophisticated and costly Russian “Forpost” drone, describing it as one of Moscow’s most advanced assets.
Recent Russian attacks have caused significant damage to Ukraine’s power system. But a total collapse is unlikely, according to Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, the head of Ukraine’s national grid company, Ukrenergo.
